York is easy to get to by road and ferry, rail and buses. You can fly to Manchester Airport or the nearer Leeds Bradford Airport - there are rail links from both to York Station. Regular buses run from outside the station to New Earswick, (e.g. routes 1, 13 and 14) - please check times online. It's not too far to take a taxi.
By road:
From the South - take the A1 north and turn off at Junction 44 on to the A64 towards York. From the A64 there is an outer ring road, the A1237, which circles York to the north. Turn left onto this and turn right on Haxby Road to New Earswick (not left to Earswick).
From the North - take the A1 south and turn off to the left on the A59 towards York. Turn left on the ring road, A1237, clockwise, and turn right at the sign to New Earswick, on Haxby Road.
There is a car park at the Folk Hall, which will be seen on the right.
From North Sea Ferries - from the ferry terminal, turn left towards Hull and right on to the A1165 to the roundabout. Turn left on the A1079 to York. As you reach York, turn right on the A64 towards the east and take the ring road, A1237, anti-clockwise, turning left to New Earswick when signed on to Haxby Road.
Accommodation - the area around York Station has many B&Bs - search for them on sites such as booking.com, expedia.co.uk or trivago.co.uk - and this is a great location for visiting many interesting places in York on foot.
