We are very excited to tell you about our second four-night residential break for quillers (and their partners) which we have arranged at a hotel in Dunster, West Somerset, UK, in April 2026. This follows the great success of our first trial event at the same hotel in July 2025.
Dunster is situated at the gateway to Exmoor National Park, and is an idyllic medieval village very close to the Somerset coast (near Minehead).
The village is overlooked by a magnificent castle (National Trust), which is perched on a high crag at the top of the high street. Dunster Castle is wonderful to visit, and is surrounded by beautiful gardens with amazing views, leading down to a working water mill.
Dunster also has an ancient packhorse bridge, beautiful historic church, dovecot, tithe barn and iconic 17th century yarn market building, which stands right outside the hotel, plus many pretty gift shops and tea rooms to visit along its cobbled streets.
Close by is Dunster Station on the West Somerset Railway heritage line - the longest fully preserved stretch of steam railway in the UK.
All in all, it's a lovely place to stay!
The Yarn Market Hotel, in the centre of the village, is a very welcoming and comfortable establishment which is well-known for hosting hobby breaks for special interest groups such as ours.
The deal that the hotel has offered us is amazing!
For an inclusive price of just £440.00 per person, participants can enjoy four nights' accommodation in a spacious ensuite bedroom; breakfast, lunch and three course dinner every day; plus unlimited use of an activity/hobby room (situated 2 - 3 minutes walk away from the hotel) which is equipped with tables where projects can be left out to be worked on whenever guests fancy sitting down to quill. Space is also available in the hotel's two lounges where people can sit down to quill together in the evenings.
If you wish, your non-quilling partner can also accompany you on the break, sharing your room for an additional £100 per person per night (inclusive of all meals). There is no single room supplement.
It should be noted that the hotel is an old building with quite a lot of steps and stairs, which might perhaps be challenging for some people with mobility issues. There are no ground floor rooms, and those who find stairs difficult might prefer to request a room on the first floor (subject to availability).
There is limited free parking outside the hotel (spaces subject to availability), and a very large 'pay and display' public car park just a few minutes walk away.
The break will include all the most popular elements of our former 'Quill, Chat and Chill' Days whereby people can quill together, share ideas and enjoy demonstrations in a relaxed, informal and supportive environment. Beginners are very welcome!
However, there will also be complete flexibility to break out at any time to visit the castle, explore Dunster and the surrounding countryside, go out for a cream tea etc.
To be clear, this wil NOT be a timetabled event! Instead, it will provide a unique opportunity for us all to work together on our own projects in the company of other like-minded quillers, whilst learning from one another in a relaxed and sociable way. There will be ample opportunity for us all to share ideas with our fellow guests, and our intention is that demonstrations of techniques will take place on an impromptu basis.
Want to learn a particular technique? There will be experienced quillers present who will be more than happy to teach you!
To book a place, please contact the Quilling Guild direct by email at [email protected] in the first instance to request an exclusive booking code for members.
This code will identify you to the hotel as a Quilling Guild member, and will enable you to share your room with a non-quilling partner, if required.
All you will then need to do is call the hotel direct on 01643 821425 (or +44 1643 821425 from outside the UK) quoting the code supplied and pay an initial deposit of £80.00 per person.
We must ask you, please, not to share the booking code with anyone else, as we want to keep the break as an exclusive benefit for Guild members and their partners/travelling companions.
DON'T DELAY ... the hotel has a limited number of rooms which will only be held open for us for a limited period, and will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis. BOOK NOW TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT!
The balance of the booking cost is payable on departure (plus the cost of any drinks from the hotel bar or any other extras you may have requested during your stay).
For anyone wishing to travel to Dunster by public transport, there is a very easy direct bus connection from Taunton Station (the Minehead bus no. 28 stopping at Dunster Steep, from where it is just a five minute walk into the village). Taunton is on the main railway line from London Paddington and the Midlands.
We also plan to arrange a pick-up by the hotel's mini bus at 12.30pm on Monday 20th April from Taunton Station (easily accessible by rail from Heathrow, Bristol or Exeter airports), to transport people and their luggage on the last part of their journey to the hotel. Please let us know when requesting your booking code if you would like to take advange of this.
If you would like more information about the hotel, Dunster or surrounding area, please visit the Yarn Market Hotel's website: www.yarnmarkethotel.com.
We do hope you can join us!
Don't forget to bring your quilling kit, some work to display and a project to work on, plus your National Trust card (if you are a Trust member) for free access to the castle!
