Accreditation for Quillers
In 1995, The Quilling Guild introduced an Accreditation scheme that enables members to achieve recognition for their competent, clean and attractive quilling and their good knowledge of a range of quilling techniques.
If you demonstrate quilling, run workshops, exhibit or want to promote yourself in the media, having an Accreditation Certificate from the Quilling Guild proves that you really do know what you are talking about.
Accreditation is available at two different levels:
Basic Level - open to applicants in their third year (or more) of Guild membership
Higher Level - open to applicants in their fifth year (or more) of Guild membership. Further details about Higher Level Accreditation can be found at the bottom of this page.
Basic Level Accreditation
The Basic Level scheme, open to applicants in their third year (or more) of Guild membership, gives quillers a goal to work towards, and the opportunity to show that they have demonstrated quilling of a recognised good standard to the Guild. This is evidenced by the award of an Accreditation Certificate. As long as you are a careful quiller who has practised all the main shapes and can demonstrate this in your quilling, it's well worth entering for the scheme.
The requirements for Basic Level Accreditation are as follows: The work to be submitted falls into two parts. Firstly, you will be provided with a printable card showing a grid, which you must complete with examples of all the main quilling shapes (closed loose coils, tight coils, open filigree work, alternate side looping/huskings and wheatears) in order to provide evidence of technical quilling skill. You can see the grid by clicking here.
Secondly, you must submit one or two pieces of quilled work which contain between them the minimum of three examples of each of the five quilling techniques mentioned above. If you choose just to submit one piece of work it must be original and accompanied by working notes and diagram(s), plus an indication of its design source (maybe from fabrics, photos or even just your own imagination). If you submit two pieces of work in this section, the second can be original (with accompanying working notes) or from a published pattern or kit, but full details and a picture from the publication or kit must accompany your work.
All applicants are supplied with a copy of the Guild's official shape chart which needs to be studied carefully. The assessors will be looking for clean work with no visible glue marks, well-made shapes in accordance with the chart and evidence that you have made some attempt to hide or disguise the visible ends of your quilling strips. They will also look to see that the sample shapes on your grid are symmetrical, if appropriate. When examining the examples of your own work, they will look for good design executed with pleasing colours, accompanied by clear working notes.
VERY IMPORTANT: Preserving the anonymity of members who have entered work for Accreditation is a very important aspect of the scheme, ensuring that work can be assessed fairly. For this reason, anyone who has a query regarding the scheme should only ever contact our Accreditation Registration Officer and no-one else.
To apply for Basic Level Accreditation, please note the following (subject to change from 2024 - details will be supplied to all Guild members in due course):
1 Members seeking accreditation must be in their third consecutive year, or more, of membership (i.e. have joined the Guild and renewed their subscription at least twice). Due to high demand, a maximum of five NEW applications can be accepted for assessment each year.
2 Applications should be made to The Quilling Guild Accreditation Registration Officer,
Flat 3, 40 Melville Street, Ryde, Isle of Wight, PO33 2AN, UK, no later than January 31st for a registration pack and number for assessment. Submitted work must usually be received by 31st May, but - please note: this is subject to confirmation in the applicant's registration letter which includes their registration number. An acknowledgement of receipt will be sent out by email. Your work will be posted back to you by the end of July. Certificates will be presented at the Celebration Weekend or posted to you if you are unable to attend.
3 The accreditation pieces must have been made within the last eighteen months.
4 Applicants should study the Guild's definitions of techniques and shapes, provided with your accreditation pack. These definitions will be used when the work is assessed.

Higher Level Accreditation
This level of accreditation is for those who have been members of the Quilling Guild for at least five years, consecutively. The Higher Level of Accreditation demands a standard of quilling knowledge and ability which you would normally achieve after years of practice in quilling. It is advisable for applicants to present final work which best reflects their skills, following closely the requirements set out. You can purchase, for £30.00 + postage, a Higher Level Accreditation Pack which shows in detail the work to be done and indicates the quality recommended for a good result. This means that you can take time to prepare your entry to a suitable standard before then applying and paying for accreditation, by the dates and at the cost mentioned for that year.
If you are a quiller who is interested in knowing the standard you could work to attain, regardless of deciding to enter the accreditation process, you may like to purchase the pack. It is something you might enjoy working towards but remember that the level of achievement the examples suggest are not necessarily for the average quiller, so don't judge your efforts harshly. Just use it as a guide to help you to raise your skills to the level that satisfies you best.
You can use this link to download the Higher Level Accreditation Rules.
You may enter the Higher Level Accreditation without first having achieved Basic Level Accreditation.

This pack includes an application form, for use when you are ready to submit your work, rules, guidelines, printed examples of the variety and standard of work required, sheets on which to mount quilling shapes, etc.
